1. Refuge: Meaning and Importance

Meaning and Importance

In Buddhist philosophy, taking Refuge (traditionally encapsulated in the Three Jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha) is not a retreat from reality or an act of blind faith; rather, it is an active, conscious turning toward what is genuine and liberating.

The importance of refuge lies in psychological and spiritual grounding. In a world full of impermanence, anxiety, and confusion, taking refuge provides an inner anchor. It shifts our primary identity from a bundle of reactive habits and worldly anxieties to a seeker aligned with wisdom and compassion.
