A Gift from the Mahasiddhas

A Special Instruction from Vimalamitra for Everyone

In our Kula, a group of practitioners practicing under qualified teachers of Buddhist Vajrayana, we have many kinds of Upadeshas which are special and personalized instructions based on having proper training and initiations. We also hold vast Sutras that are generally more open to read and gain the benefit of their instructions and blessings. What has been really needed in our time is a way to bridge the gap between advanced practitioners and those that aren't even ready to make a commitment to a Kula or a teacher. In a meeting between myself and Lama Fede, he brought up a very poignant question, "Does such a book or text exist by which even those without any major commitments can pray and get blessings from the Buddhas?" As a result of this question a special Upadesha arose in the state of the dream, by which a teacher to whom I am close gave me the transmission and helped to spark my memory concerning a text for this purpose. This is the way that tendril arises in interdependence based on the needs of beings in particular times.

And fortunately for us, the Mahapandit of the Noble Lands, Guru Vimalamitra, has given us just such a practice. This book is called 'The 108 Practices of the Land of Oddiyana' and includes prayers, name dharanis, and puja offerings for a vast variety of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas that anyone can do, from those practicing the peak of the Yanas to those who don't even know if they want much to do with religious Buddhism. The Buddhas are truly impartial toward those that near their help and call upon them. They lead all to liberation without bias. Because of that, endless methods arise. Here is what this book is: A way to pray to the Buddhas for everyone. We will be using this in our Kula continually, practicing these pujas together as a common point for everyone. If you are interested in joining us or training in our Kula, we welcome you to please come and learn. If you are a long time Dharma practitioner who practices alone or with others, and you wish to use this by yourself or in groups - please do! If you consider yourself non-religious but open and wish to use this book to ask for help in your life from the Buddhas - please do! Please just don't pass off this Upadesha as your own or seperate the pujas from the source of their instruction. This is from the lineage of Vimalamitra with a particular history of revelation. Be honest about that, and bring it into your life as you need. Here is what this book is not: A method of bypassing training and development in Mahayana Buddhism. This book is not a replacement for intiation into the myriad lineages of Lineage Masters and deities. These Buddhas will not show up through these practices and intiatiate you and bring you into some further revelation. If you wish to practice Vajrayana, you must find a qualified Guru to do so. This book is not for those that wish to bring curses and malevolence into the world. The Buddhas will not help you do that. This is not a hook into our Kula with some kind of expectation. We would be glad if you would join us, but if the beings of this world practice these pujas without ever meeting us, we also rejoice. ----
