This year is shaping up to be an intense one. We've just finished a presentation with Lama Glenn H.Mullin (that we will be posting here, once it is finished editing) but this month's activities keep accelerating.
We're finishing a new visit this month, from the Ven.Marajina, that we'll announce soon.
However, let's start at the beginning.

Fundraiser (and why we do it)
This next month we're going to do a special fundraiser effort. Why are we doing this? Because we want to have our next Mara Roast in India, on Losar 2027. In order to do that, I (Lama Fede) need to personally go there to assess and negotiate with the Mahabodhi temple the feasibility of it.
I've already gotten the tickets, but we need to see how much we can raise towards that, since it's a trip to benefit the whole Kula.
In the secular world, when you pay for someone’s travels, you are buying them a service—a plane ticket, a hotel room. The transaction ends when the money changes hands.
In the Vajrayana tradition, however, supporting a Lama’s pilgrimage to a holy site is something entirely different. It is not a purchase; it is a spiritual partnership known as Merit Sharing (Tibetan: ngo-wa). It is a profound method of connecting your own life force to the highest sources of blessing.
We often think of merit as "good karma points," but it is far more dynamic. Merit is spiritual momentum. It is the positive energy generated by virtuous actions that clears obstacles from our lives, sharpens our wisdom, and fertilizes the ground for awakening. Without a sufficient accumulation of merit, even the most profound teachings will not take root in our minds.
The practice of Dana (generosity) is the easiest and most accessible way to generate this essential energy.
The Patron and the Practitioner: A Sacred Partnership
Tibetans have a saying: "The practitioner and the patron achieve enlightenment together."
How does this work? It rests on the truth of interdependence (tendrel).
A pilgrimage to Bodhgaya—the Vajrasana or "Diamond Seat" where the Buddha attained enlightenment—is arduous. It requires immense physical effort, time, resources, and intense spiritual focus once there.
When you financially support a Lama to undertake this journey, you become the indispensable cause of that pilgrimage. You provide the material conditions that allow the spiritual activity to take place.
Therefore, by the laws of karma, you automatically share in the result.
Every prostration the Lama makes under the Bodhi tree, every mantra recited at the Mahabodhi temple, and every aspiration prayer made during the powerful time of Losar 2027 is inextricably linked to the support that got them there. The merit generated by the Lama is simultaneously generated by the patron who made the journey possible. You are not watching the pilgrimage from afar; you are energetically participating in it.
The Magnifying Glass of Bodhgaya
Furthermore, the object of generosity matters. Bodhgaya is not an ordinary location; it is the center of the Buddhist mandala in this world. It is said that the power of any practice performed at the Diamond Seat is multiplied exponentially—some texts say by a factor of millions.
By connecting your act of generosity to this specific holy site, your merit is similarly magnified. A modest contribution toward a plane ticket to Bodhgaya generates vastly more merit than a large contribution to a mundane cause. It is an investment with infinite spiritual returns.
The Vision: Losar 2027
We are beginning this effort now because a pilgrimage of this magnitude—culminating in the powerful energy of the Fire-Sheep Year (2027) New Year celebrations—requires both logistical preparation and the accumulation of collective merit.
By contributing to the "Treasury of the Lotus Born" fundraising series over the coming year, you are weaving an invisible thread connecting yourself to the Bodhi Tree. You are ensuring that when prayers are offered there in 2027, your name and your aspirations are present in the heart of the practice.
Let us join together as patron and practitioner, generating the vast merit needed to benefit all beings.
On the other hand, we know money is tight everywhere. So we want to offer you a special discount.
If you want to support us via the Tiers (which makes most non-fundraising activities and courses either free or discounted) we can throw in 2 months free.
So, if you want to support us for Tier 1 the whole year, please click here to do so.
If you want to support us for Tier 2 the whole year, please click here.
(everything that has a "Membership Offer" text means that it is applicable for the Tiers)
We're excited to start this part of the journey with you!
